Before Speech Comes, Stability: Vestibular Foundations of Childhood Communication Disorders

Inspiring ASLPs for upgrading knowledge basis and integrating into clinical skills, this course explores the balance system and how it intricately ties to the language learning system.
The course explores the basics of anatomy: the inner ear, the cerebellum, the brainstem nuclei and the pathways, the cortical representation of balance systems and the language interface. It also helps you understand the basic neurobiology and anatomy, the foundational differences in neurodivergent children and methods of understanding a brain that is different.
Covered are: basics of inner ear testing, correlating to everyday clinical picture, understanding the ocular+balance connection, integrating the cerebellum, viewing few test finding, moving from mechanisms to therapy, understanding contraindications and providing safe therapy practices.
