Anupama Shetty MASLP describes sensory processing disorder. She further explains the need for SLPs to understand SPD, how effectively the treatment works for the child’s own regulation and how important is for the SLP to understand the neurophysiology for working on the strength based approach. SPD comes in various forms with and without a neurodivergent base. Sensory Integration therapy is an absolute must and working with an Occupational Therapist trained in SI ismandated. It is important for SLPs to differentially diagnose those with an underlying ADHD/ASD base. It is important to recognize and address various sensory seeking/defensive needs for SLP intervention to work the best.
